Grassroots football forms the foundations of the European sports model and lies at the heart of UEFA's mission. UEFA Grassroots Week is an annual event highlighting the importance of ensuring everyone, everywhere has an equal opportunity to play football. Grassroots Week takes place every September during the European Commission's European Week of Sport.

The Government has set out plans to support the next generation of footballers in honour of the Three Lions’ achievement of reaching the UEFA EURO 2024 final.  The Government will commit to supporting more high-quality inclusive facilities to get more people active and involved in sport.  The Football Foundation, a charity setup to deliver grassroots facilities will also be supported to continue their Home Advantage Programme. The scheme will support the transfer of the ownership and maintenance of grassroots football pitches directly to hundreds of clubs and community organisations, relieving the burden on local councils.

The International Football Association Board announced sin-bins will be used at higher levels of the game after successful tests within the grassroots game. Sin-bins have been trialled since the 2019-20 season with over 30 leagues at grassroot level taking part.

Cheshire Football Association hosted it's annual grassroots football awards on the 27th October 2023.
